Elsewhere in this issue you will see the report from Robin Peirce, the Chairman of the Chiltern Society’s Management Committee.
The Friends, however, would like to express their sincere thanks to all those who have renewed their membership, or joined for the first time, in 2007. Currently we have nearly 240 members, over a third of the Ewelme electorate! The funds that we generate from membership and our annual Quiz Night are used exclusively to make grants for the purchase and maintenance of equipment and materials necessary for the upkeep of the beds and surrounding land.
As you probably know, whilst the Chiltern Society is the actual owner responsible of the Watercress Beds, The Friends exists as an entirely separate, Ewelme village-based, organisation committed not only to supporting the restoration and maintenance of the beds and the surrounding land, but also to representing and protecting the interests of the Village in relation to its management. This we will continue to do on your behalf to the very best of our ability.
