By the time the next edition of the Ewelme News is published there will be a new Parish Council. At the time of going to press, I have only heard of one person willing to stand – me! It would be great to have at least six other people offering to serve Ewelme. I say six because you would need at least seven people standing for there to be an election. One year there were only six people who put their names forward and they all became parish councillors without an election. I was one of that group and it felt strange because you were in that position purely by default. No one had elected you to serve them and I didn’t feel very comfortable with that! I sincerely hope that there will be so many people trying to stand for the Parish Council that they will have to produce extra long voting papers for Ewelme. It’s time to be counted folks. Too many people say that it isn’t ‘for them’. So who is it for? This is the one time in four years that every villager above the age of eighteen can have their say about the future of Ewelme. Wouldn’t it be great to see a whole host of names on the ballot paper belonging to people of Ewelme who want to bring new, fresh ideas and an enthusiasm for public service. If, however, you don’t care who runs the parish of Ewelme then let’s leave it all to SODC or maybe Benson or Watlington who might jump at the chance to widen their parish boundaries! The future of the village of Ewelme is entirely in the hands of the villagers of Ewelme. It’s up to all of you to play your part. Put yourself forward for the local elections in May and also cast your vote for the six councillors whom you feel would do the best possible job.
