Village map – proposed that we go ahead seeking quotes. Councillors preferred the sketch designs which showed major places of interest around the village. Businesses would not be mentioned.
Village Hall ownership – according to all available papers, the Parish Council were custodian trustees and the Village Hall Management Committee responsible for the maintenance and day-to-day running. If the Parish Council ‘owns’ the Village Hall and Reading Room, then they may have to be entered as assets in the audit.
SID trial – results were analysed and Green Lane was the main problem for speeding. Options for speed control would be applied for. Ewelme was congratulated for the amount of active support from residents.
Hampden Way fence – issue discussed by Councillors. South Oxfordshire Housing Association had erected the fence (replacing one that had been broken down for years) following a complaint by a resident. The reason for the fence was given as mainly dog-fouling in the area. Councillors were wary of taking sides on this issue and suggested that a gate be put in to maintain the unofficial footpath – this would be a satisfactory solution. Brian Benson verbally resigned as he felt strongly that the Council should take a view that there should be no fence at all.
Affordable housing – the proposed sites suggested were deemed as not acceptable. Councillors suggested the land adjacent the old dairy could be considered as planning permission had already been granted in that area some years ago.
Parish Plan – an application for a grant had been submitted and we were requested to submit details of our last appraisal methods. Money had already been put aside for this venture.
Shelter / small goal area – this needs to be completed bearing in mind the requirements from SODC before they will release the necessary grant.
Cricket square – a quote had been received for the preparation of the square throughout the season in the region of £6 000 pa. Councillors felt it would be unwise to subsidise cricket on the Common for that amount and it was formally suggested that the Ewelme Cricket Club be asked to maintain the square to their standards themselves. The Council would still maintain the outfield on the Common.
Re-gravelling – this was approved for the path onto Cow Common from the car park subject to a limit of £100.
