On 24 November we shall be holding a RACE NIGHT starting at 6:30pm. If you have never experienced a race night before, then why not make an effort and join us for some good old-fashioned fun! By the time this News reaches you the races will have sponsors, the horses for the first seven races will have owners, the films ordered and the food will be bought and preparations started. Everyone who has attended has always said afterwards that it was a fun event and ‘where was everyone else?’. We can manage with forty guests but eighty would be even more fun!
What happens? Well, put simply we show films of horse races with eight horses in reach race. You have the opportunity to place bets on whichever number horse you think will win but you have no idea as to the history or parentage of the horse. It is just luck if you win – we don’t go in for form! The owner of the horse will win the money that the sponsor of the race has given and – as a special this year – another firm has offered to sponsor every race as well! That means the winning horse owner will receive £40. The final race, number eight, will be an auction. We offer the ownership of each of the eight horses to the person who bids the most money, we also offer an auction for the trainer as well. The winning owner of the horse in that eighth race pockets not only half the auction takings (which could easily be in the region of £100) but also the £40 sponsorship money! That sounds pretty good to me.
We are also fortunate enough to have an exciting selection of raffle prizes at the moment – rounds of golf, meal at The Goose, 3 large bottles of spirits, champagne, wine, food, gifts, the list is endless! What more could you ask for?
Tickets are £8.00 and include a hot meal, a bar will also be available and we shall ensure that the Village Hall heating is on full! So, look out for the inevitable posters, take note of the information and we look forward to seeing the Village Hall full to bursting on the 24 November.
We have also been given an old Raleigh racing bike and 10 bales of hay if anyone is interested in bidding for them. I have the bike in the garage at the moment and if you want to look at it, just let me know. We’ll take the highest bid for both lots on the Saturday night. The money raised this year will go towards a new floor which is desperately needed. I wonder how many people have the same floor tiles in their home that are over 26 years old!
So, the Committee is looking forward to seeing as many of you as we can squash into the Village Hall. Details of tickets etc are included in the full-page advert later on in the News.
